Springboro detectives receive awards for service

Two local police officers were awarded the Errol D. Butt Award for exemplary service to their department and community.

Officers’ Terry Dunkel and Randy Peagler’s investigation led to the conviction of a local man who put his girlfriend’s son into a permanent vegetative state.

The award is given annually to a law enforcement officer or firefighter who best exemplifies long time service to the community like former officer and chief investigator for the prosecutors’ offices, Errol D. Butt, for which the award is named. Butt’s died of cancer in 2004.

Warren County Prosecutor David Fornshell presented the award to the detectives.

“They [Dunkel and Peagler] sought and obtained justice for a little boy who will never know what they did, or ever be able to thank them for what they did, but whose life has touched all of us and reminds us why we choose to do what we do,” Fornshell said.
