Kite Fest in West Chester tries again Sunday

WEST CHESTER, OH (FOX19) – What was supposed to be the first day of the 8th annual WGUC Airwaves Kite Fest in West Chester was not to be, as the event was blown away, soaked, and canceled by rain and wind on Saturday.

Clearing, warm and windy weather should make for entirely different results Sunday from noon to 5 p.m..

Among the things to see: Chicago Fire choreographed kite team; 180 GO choreographed kite team; US Champion Boomerang Team; Cincinnati Zoo animals (12-2 p.m.); Eric the Balloon Guy (12-2 p.m.); Airbrush Tattoos (3-5 p.m.), Parachute Run; Open Flying areas; Kite Making for kids; Big Kites; Kite Vendors; Kite Exhibit.

Admission is free, but Kite Making kits will set you back $3, and they’re asking for voluntary parking donations of $2 to benefit the VOA Museum.  Parking is offsite at West Chester Hospital and shuttle buses run continuously to the VOA Museum.

LIBERTY TOWNSHIP, BUTLER COUNTY, OH - Kids (and adults, too) will get the chance to sit on bright red tractors, in an event that will help bring comfort and joy to kids and young adults with cancer and blood diseases.

The Dragonfly Foundation, with the support of West Chester Lawn & Garden/MOE’s Outdoor Equipment & Supplies and Mahindra Tractors, invites the community hop aboard a bunch of red Mahindra Tractors on Friday, April 6th and Saturday, April 7th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Thanks to Cincinnati Circus, for $1 per inflatable or $5 for an all day jump pass, kids can slide down an inflatable slide and or run along a 40’ long inflatable obstacle course. Party Podz, mobile gaming units, and Recreations Outlet outdoor play equipment will also be available for kids.  There will also be face painting, temporary tattooing and Saturday's Easter Egg Hunt (noon) and balloon animals from Tiffany Hubert.

MASON, OH (FOX19) - On April 29, 1972 Kings Island opened its $30 million royal gates outside of Cincinnati, Ohio to a mere 7,000 curious guests.  The slogan used to entice their visit was “C’mon Get Happy!” and admission to the park boasting 65 attractions was $6.00.  It didn’t take long for word to get out, though.  By the end of the first season Kings Island had set a theme park industry record by playing host to more than 2 million guests.

Since then, over 120 million visitors have experienced the park’s world-class rides, shows and attractions making Kings Island one of the most celebrated theme parks in the nation.  The 1972 attendance record was just the beginning of a long string of firsts the park has accumulated in the past 40 years.

CINCINNATI (FOX19) – Travel-rating website 10best.com surveyed their readers on top travel destinations, and three Tri-State destinations finished among the top four nationally in their categories. 

Newport Aquarium was voted #1 among aquariums, beating out some facilities that are larger and are in bigger cities, like Shedd Aquarium in Chicago and the National Aquarium in Baltimore.

Soak City waterpark expansion adds more than 50 activities

MASON, OH (FOX19) - Construction continues on Kings Island’s new Soak City waterpark, a $10 million dollar expansion of the park’s existing waterpark. 

Soak City will feature more than 50 water activities for the whole family, from waterslides to children’s areas.  A 650,000-gallon wave pool and action river highlight the new attractions in Soak City. 

Kings Island begins its 40th anniversary season April 28. 

Soak City is scheduled to open May 26 and is included free with park admission.

KINGS MILLS, OH (FOX19) - On Saturday, February 11 & Sunday, February 12, a musical drama performance of "Dead Serious...About Life" will be presented at Kings High School in Kings Mill, Ohio. The performance on Saturday begins at 6:00 p.m. and the Sunday performance begins at 3:00 p.m. The musical will be performed by a group called Mishpachah, Inc., which is based out of Mason, Ohio.

Mishpachah, Inc. is an auditioned group of high school students from the Cincinnati, Ohio area who participate in this community drama/music group. The group's unique name "Mishpachah" is a Hebrew word that means family or clan. "Mish" as they are called, is known for their radical and exceptional style and choreography. In the ‘11-’12 performance year, the group consist of 36 students representing 20 different school districts and 24 different churches.
