Mason school district evaluating current health care plan

Mason school district evaluating current health care plan

MASON, OH (FOX19) - Mason City Schools current use of TrueCost health care may not be working out as they hoped.

Mason City Schools recently implemented the health care plan that pays providers Medicare + 40%.

“We’ve tried to be creative in thinking of ways to contain costs, and we think the TrueCost health plan is an innovative idea whose time has come - but may be too progressive right now,” said Dr. Gail Kist-Kline, superintendent.

While the plan was introduced to the Cincinnati area over a year ago, area providers began treating the insurance coverage differently in January, after Mason City Schools adopted the plan. Some Mason employees experienced difficulties with their doctors and at the hospital.

“It was never our intention for employees to experience disruptions in seeing their physicians. We were unprepared for the backlash from some local hospitals and doctors’ offices,” said Richard Gardner, treasurer.
