Mason Community Center Hosts Community Wellness Expo

MASON, OH (FOX19) - The community is invited to a Community Wellness Expo from 7 to 11 a.m. and from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 12, at Mason Community Center.  Information on personal health, fitness and financial wellness programs, pet care, family nutrition, and other topics will be presented. 

Experts will be on-hand to answer questions. The Mason Community Center personal trainers will be there, along with Nutritionist Miriam Jackobs and representatives from TriHealth Pavilion Spa, Chase Bank, Girl Scouts of Western Ohio, Mason Family Pet Hospital, Mojo Running Store, Bethesda Mason Physical Therapy, and Whole Foods Market. 

Seven presentations and 25 exposition vendors are scheduled for this free family-friendly event. Interactive programs and demonstrations will be held throughout the Community Center during the Expo. 

Stop by during the Expo to schedule cholesterol and glucose screenings.

Light The Night for Cancer in Mason

MASON, OH (FOX19) - Over 2,000 supporters of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society will Light The Night for Cancer Thursday in Mason. The festival begins at 5:30pm, Opening ceremonies begin at 7pm and the walk starts at 7:30pm at the Mason Municipal Center.

Those whose lives have been touched by cancer walking with 1,000s of illuminated, red balloons against the night sky. During this leisurely walk, walkers carry illuminated balloons - white for survivors, red for supporters and gold in memory of loved ones lost to cancer - thousands of walkers - men, women and children - form a community of caring, bringing light to the dark world of cancer

Remembrance ceremony during Opening Ceremony. Tents will be set up with photos of those being remembered.

LEBANON, OH (FOX19) - This October 2, athletes from around the world will be participating in races throughout the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon weekend in Minneapolis – St. Paul, and Erica Minner of Lebanon is one of them. 

Minner, is one of this year’s 25 Medtronic Global Heroes – runners with implanted devices who continue to pursue their passions with the help of medical technology. She has a pacemaker to help treat a heart arrhythmia, but is still able pursue her passion of running and sports. 

A competitive youth softball player and all around athlete growing up, Minner had secured a starting spot on the Muskingum University softball team as a freshman in college. Unfortunately, it also was during this time that she started having grand mal seizures – five throughout the school year.

Flu Vaccinations for public coming to Mason High School

MASON, OH (FOX19) - The Warren County Combined Health District will be offering seasonal flu vaccinations for the public on Wednesday, September 21st from 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. on a walk-in basis at Mason High School (Food Commons Area) located at 6100 Mason Montgomery Rd., Mason.

The Centers for Disease Control recommends that individuals 6 months of age and older receive the seasonal flu vaccine. The charge for a seasonal flu shot will be $15.00 and will be available for those individuals 6 months of age and older. Any individual under 18 years of age will need a vaccination consent form signed by their parent or legal guardian. Vaccination consent forms can be found on our website at www.wcchd.com and will also be available at the walk-in clinic.

Pink Ribbon Classic is coming soon

MASON, OH (FOX19) - The Pink Ribbon Classic, an 18-hole golf tournament in an scramble/shamble format, will take place at the Heritage Club in Mason on September 19.

Entries are $200 per person, $800 for a foursome.  Players can form their own team or be paired by the Heritage Club staff.

The tournament is present by National Bank and Trust.  The event is partnered with Komen Greater Cincinnati and proceeds go to fight breast cancer.  Players in general and men in particular are urged to wear pink.

There are lots of extras, including a raffle, practice range, buffet, on-course beverages, and skill challenges.  An awards dinner, raffle, and silent auction follow at 6:00 p.m.

The field is limited to 120 entries.

Mason plans royal treatment for Miss Ohio

MASON, OH (FOX19) - Ellen Bryan, Miss Ohio 2011, is taking a bicycle tour to all six children's hospitals in the Children's Miracle Network. One her way from Columbus to Cincinnati, she will spend several busy hours in Mason.  Here's a schedule released by the city:

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:

11:00 a.m.  Mason Mayor Don Prince and officials will greet Miss Ohio Ellen Bryan at the entrance to the City of Mason. Miss Ohio will be bicycling in from Lebanon as part of a 45-city tour through Ohio is to raise money to support the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

Volley for the Cure at Mason September 13th

MASON, OH (FOX19) - The girls' volleyball games between the Mason Comets and Sycamore Aves will be more than just games September 13th, when they become Volley for the Cure.

Volley for the Cure is an event to increase awareness of breast cancer among high school students, staff and community and to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

They will have raffle baskets, food, split the pot and plenty of volleyball.  All proceeds support breast cancer research. 

Volley for the Cure t-shirts will also be on sale September 6th-9th during lunch at Mason High School HS & Mason Middle School. T-shirts are $6, and are expected to sell out.
