Lebanon launching plan to increase police presence in schools | News

LEBANON, OH (FOX19)- The Lebanon Police Department and Lebanon City Schools are implementing a plan to increase the opportunities for police officers to be present at various city schools. 

The plan includes establishing offices designated exclusively for use by police officers in school buildings.  These offices can be used by the police officers throughout the day to; complete reports, make telephone calls, work from their computers, or speak with students, parents, and school staff. 

Officials believe these "operating locations" enhance the operational effectiveness of the police officers as well as provide a significant increase in police presence at school buildings.  The first three operating locations will be located in the high school, junior high, and Bowman Primary School. 

In addition to the creation of the police offices in the school buildings, Lebanon police officers have reviewed the school district crisis management plan.  This annual review is a component of the school districts overall crisis management strategy that includes all public safety and emergency management partners.   

The Lebanon Police Department will conduct a workshop for school administration and Board of Education members next month to provide an overview of their role in responding to school related emergency situations.
