City of Mason names new Assistant Police Chief

 

MASON, OH (FOX19) - Mason City Manager Eric Hansen has announced the promotion of Police Lieutenant Paul Lindenschmidt to Captain. He will serve as an Assistant Police Chief for the City of Mason.

Captain Lindenschmidt has worked for the City of Mason Police Department since 1980.  He holds a B.A. in Criminal Justice from the University of Cincinnati. He is also a graduate of the Northwestern School of Police Staff and Command, the Police Executive Leadership College, the Certified Law Enforcement Executive program, and the FBI National Academy.

County Engineer Neil Tunison Sworn in as CEAO's New President

County Engineer Neil Tunison Sworn in as CEAO's New President

LEBANON, OH (FOX19) -  Warren County Engineer, Neil Tunison, P.E., P.S., was sworn in as the County Engineer’s Association of Ohio’s (CEAO) new president. He was sworn-in on Dec. 12 in Columbus, Ohio by Ron Maag, Ohio State Representative. Mr. Tunison will serve as president for one year.

Most notably Mr. Tunison was honored statewide by CEAO when he received the 2004 County Engineer of the Year award. He was praised for his work with storm water and drainage issues.

His primary efforts will be in maintaining current federal truck weight limits, working with ODOT on project development for federally funded projects, and urging state and federal legislators to adequately fund much needed transportation projects in a new funding bill.

The CEAO serves as a central point for reference and group discussion of mutual problems for the County Engineer. The majority of Ohio's 88 counties elect a County Engineer.

MASON, OH (FOX19) - The Heart of America Foundation® announces Gabrielle Pathrose, a sixth grader from Mason, OH, as the third place winner of the 2011 Gee Whiz Kids® Award. 

The Gee Whiz Kids® Award is given to students age 12 and under who exemplify the value of service in America.  Gabrielle will be featured on The Heart of America Foundation’s website at www.heartofamerica.org, receive an award certificate, and a $100 scholarship donated by Marilyn Perlyn, author, and Amanda Perlyn, illustrator, of The Biggest and Brightest Light.

DEERFIELD TOWNSHIP, WARREN COUNTY, OH (FOX19) - Deerfield Township Fire Rescue has a new Battalion Chief. Captain Mark Miller’s promotion to Battalion Chief was officially approved at the December 14, 2011 Trustee’s meeting.

Miller’s promotion comes after a vacancy left by Battalion Chief Jerry Gooden. “We are very pleased to have Miller on the command staff. His experience and knowledge is a great asset to this department” states Chief Chris Eisele.

Miller began his fire service career at Forest Park Fire Department in 1994. He began working part time at Deerfield Township Fire Rescue in 1999 and was promoted to full time Captain at Deerfield in 2008. Miller comments “I am very excited to be a part of the leadership at Deerfield and look forward to helping the department progress into the future”.

Kings Local School District teacher earns prestigious National Board Certification

KINGS MILLS, OH (FOX19) - For the past 14 years Ms. Ilene Besso, 5th grade math teacher at Columbia Elementary, has dedicated her life to teaching. Now, after years of preparation and hard work, Ms. Besso has earned the highest credential available to American educators by becoming a National Board Certified Teacher through the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS).

National Board Certification is achieved through a rigorous, performance-based assessment of a teacher’s skills and content knowledge. The certification can take one to three years to complete.

Ms. Besso decided to complete her National Board Certification because “I wanted to prove to myself that I am worthy of being my students’ teacher,” Ms. Besso said. “That people deem my work as a significant contribution to the world of education.
