Steele Appointed to Mason School Board

MASON, OH (FOX19) - During a November 18 special meeting, the Mason City School Board unanimously appointed Matthew Steele to fill its vacant school board position.

Steele, who is an attorney with Reisenfeld & Associates, was one of 15 candidates to submit his name for the position that became vacant after John Odell, a beloved Mason educator, died October 27 following a battle with an aggressive form of cancer.

"This was a very deliberative process. Each of the candidates was very impressive, and I'm most hopeful that we will continue to see them involved in our district. We gave ourselves time to personally reflect on the strengths of each individual candidate and met as a a group to define a process to help us reach consensus as a Board," explained Debbie Delp, School Board President.

Duvelius first to file for judge position in Warren County

LEBANON, OH (FOX19) - Warren County Juvenile and Probate Court Chief Magistrate Carolyn Duvelius filed her petitions to run for the Common Pleas Court Judge seat currently held by Judge Neal Bronson. Judge Bronson has indicated that he does not plan on seeking re-election. Duvelius will be running in the Republican Primary scheduled for March 6, 2012.

Duvelius has served as a Magistrate for the past 8 years hearing over 11,000 cases and helping administer the Court. As Chief Magistrate, Duvelius handles a wide variety of criminal and civil matters including probate litigation and the highest level of felony offenses. Prior to serving as Magistrate, Duvelius served 15 years as an Assistant Warren County Prosecutor, personally handling over 50,000 cases ranging from sex offenses to traffic matters.

MASON, OH (FOX19) - Moeller high school sent out notice on Tuesday regarding students who have signed national letters of intent to continue their sports activities on a college level.

JORDAN SIMPSON has committed t play baseball for Head Coach Ron Smith at Furman University.  Simpson plays both shortstop and third base for the Crusaders and will play infield for Furman University.  Simpson has received First Team All-GCL 2011 and has maintained academic honors carrying a 3.25 GPA.  Jordan is the son of Scott and Denise Simpson of Mason.

MASON, OH (FOX19) - The Northeast Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce held its annual award function on October 11th, 2011 at the Manor House. The chamber, since its inception in 1968, has been honoring eminent individuals for exemplary work in their industry and to the community. The event was attended by top level executives from Duke Energy, Kings Island, Luxxotica, and CenturyLink just to name a few. The Executive of the Year award was presented to Kalvin’s Founder and CEO, Thiag Loganathan, by last year’s winner George Sehi, Executive Dean of Sinclair Community College.

Loganathan thanked his wife and business partner Kalyani Loganathan, as well as referencing the late Steve Jobs by saying, “Success can be attributed to two things: The first is passion. You have to love what you do in order to persevere. Without passion you have no vision. And secondly you have to be a good talent scout.

Funeral arrangements set for beloved Mason educator

MASON, OH (FOX19) - Mason City Schools’ board member John Odell died on October 27 after a hard-fought battle with an aggressive form of lung cancer.

A beloved educator, Odell had an extensive career as an innovative Mason teacher and curriculum leader from 1985 until he retired in 2006. He ran for and won a seat on the Mason City Schools’ Board of Education in November 2009, and brought the same passion for learning to the school board as he did in the classroom.

Ingram, Voss inducted into Kings Island Hall of Fame

MASON, OH (FOX19) - Former Kings Island employees Chuck Ingram and the late Ruth Voss were inducted as the newest members into the Kings Island Hall of Fame on Saturday.

Ingram (pictured left) worked as a seasonal associate at Kings Island from 1978 to 1985.  He spent his first two years in the merchandise department before transferring to entertainment, starting out in tech services.  Ingram was promoted to an area supervisor responsible for the park’s roving entertainment, including the Clown Band, Juggles and Mimes.  He has spent the past two decades working in radio in Cincinnati at 50,000-watt 700 WLW, where he has served as an on-site broadcast engineer, promotions and operations director, and director of traffic operations.

Voss spent 15 years as Kings Island’s public relations manager from 1974 until her retirement in 1989.  During her tenure she met and worked with Dick Van Dyke, Jonathan Winters, Dinah Shore, Evel Knievel, Joe Barbera an
