Springboro Senator goes red for women's health

Springboro Senator goes red for women's health

COLUMBUS, OH (FOX19)  - State Senator Shannon Jones (R–Springboro) joined fellow women legislators in the fight against women’s number one killer, heart disease. The women united to raise awareness for the disease, which affects approximately 42 million women in the United States.

“More women die of cardiovascular disease than all forms of cancer combined,” said Jones. “Women’s heart disease symptoms are different from men’s and are often hidden or misunderstood. Together we can educate our daughters, sisters, mothers and friends about heart disease prevention and treatment."

This is the 10th year of the Go Red For Women movement. As a result of increased awareness and research, more than 627,000 women have been saved from heart diseases and 330 fewer are dying each day.

Senator Shannon Jones represents Ohio’s 7th Senate District, which encompasses all of Warren County and portions of Butler and Hamilton Counties.

Monroe Police called about incident between City Manager and Vice Mayor

MONROE, OH (FOX19) – A Monroe Police Officer was called to City Hall Wednesday to document an incident reportedly involving raised voices and chest-poking.

Just before noon Wednesday, Police Officer Brian Curlis was dispatched to see City Manager William Brock, who wanted to report an incident around 9:30 a.m.

Brock reported that he was speaking to Vice Mayor Robert Kelley near the James Monroe Community Room before things got out of hand. He said they were talking about city business when the conversation turned heated.  Brock said Kelley moved into his personal space and poked him in the chest with his index finger.  He said he felt physically threatened by Kelley’s actions, and told Kelley “Don’t ever touch me again.”  Brock said that Kelley then threatened his job, and the heated conversation ended soon after that.
