COLUMBUS (FOX19) – Ohio Auditor Dave Yost says failure to present an acceptable financial recovery plan by the Monroe Local School District prompted him to place the district in a state of fiscal emergency Wednesday.
The district is following in the footsteps of the Little Miami Local Schools in that regard. Little Miami was put under state control after voters there failed every operating levy for years. A levy passed last year and that district is working toward regaining local control.
“The Monroe Local Schools will have some difficult decisions to make in the coming weeks and months,” Auditor Yost said in a release. “My office stands ready to assist wherever we can to bring financial stability back to the district.”
