The Golden Lamb Celebrates Christmas with Three Special Menus | Restaurants

LEBANON, OH (FOX19) - Traditional American Christmas feasts have changed over time, each with its own distinct, hearty dishes to celebrate the warmth of the season despite the cold. To honor the Christmas traditions throughout the years, The Golden Lamb is proud to announce three special Christmas menus, each served for a limited time in December.

Frohe Weihnachten- Offered December 5-11

Southwest Ohio has history rooted in traditions of our German ancestors, including a Christmas feast centered on wild game easily available throughout the season. With this tradition in mind, The Golden Lamb is proud to present Frohe Weihnachten (German for “Merry Christmas”), a compliment to traditions carefully preserved and to meals lovingly prepared, and features a first course of slow-roasted cabbage and beef soup; choice of Dijon and herb crusted venison chop with potato puree, asparagus and black cherry jus or rabbit lollipops with parsnip and carrot puree and lemon thyme pan gravy; and German chocolate cake with pecan custard. The Frohe Weihnachten menu will be offered December 5-11.

Cratchit’s Christmas Dinner- Offered December 12-18

If there is one Christmas dinner that springs to mind before any other in the collective consciousness of people throughout the country, it has to be the Christmas dinner shared by the Cratchit family in Charles Dickens’ classic tale A Christmas Carol. This classic Christmas menu, brought to life by one of The Golden Lamb’s most famous guests (Dickens visited The Golden Lamb April 20, 1842 during an American tour), gets a Midwest touch for Cratchit’s Christmas Dinner, the second of three special Christmas menus, offered December 12-18 at The Golden Lamb. Guests will enjoy a first course of butternut squash soup with essence of roasted chestnut and crème fraîche; choice of duo of goose – confit of leg and sliced roasted breast – goose fat potatoes, Dijon coated haricots verts finished with apple maple reduction or breast of Wisconsin pheasant stuffed with winter mushrooms, sweat pea puree and braised red cabbage; and finished with a delicious serving of vanilla buttermilk chess pie with chocolate ganache.

Christmas at Mt. Vernon- Offered December 19-23

A menu of thirty items was typical of the grand feasts served by George and Martha Washington during their Christmas celebrations at their historic home in Mount Vernon.  The Golden Lamb has chosen to recreate six of those items as their Christmas salute to our nation’s first president during Christmas at Mt. Vernon – the final menu of three special Christmas menus, to be served December 19-23. Guests will get a taste of the dishes our founding fathers enjoyed with a first course of hearty Indian corn and egg yolk dumpling soup; second course choice of Iowa Farms pork shank with Yukon gold potatoes, Cipollini onions and baby carrots and herb pan gravy or Butler County turkey roulade with chestnut sage stuffing, whipped golden potatoes and wild-grown cranberry compote; and finished with a hearty Washington apple spice cake with bourbon anglaise and caramel drizzle.
