Mason City Schools' Winter Weather Precautions | Schools
MASON,OH (FOX19) - Mason City Schools closings and delays are based on concern for the safety of students, parents and employees. As winter weather approaches, it is important that families establish alternative plans for students should there be a need to delay the start of school, dismiss early or cancel school due to winter weather that can create hazardous road conditions or power outages.
Should there be a need to close schools, Mason’s extended care programs will not operate and all after-school activities will be cancelled, unless otherwise communicated.
If there is a need to delay the start of school to allow time for streets and parking lots to be cleared of snow, ice or debris, school buses will run on a two hour delay. Morning preschool and kindergarten classes will begin two hours later (11:10 am) and will dismiss one hour later than normal at 12:55 pm. Afternoon preschool and kindergarten will begin one hour later (1:55 pm) and will dismiss at the normal time (3:40 pm). Dismissals for all other grades will occur as usual. Mason’s extended care programs and Central Office operate on a regular schedule.
If schools close in excess of the five days allotted by the Ohio Department of Education, school days will be made up at the end of the school year.
When schools are delayed or closed, it is communicated on the district website, www.masonohioschools.com, television and radio.
In addition, Mason City Schools families and private school families who use Mason’s transportation services can sign up to receive phone messages regarding school closings or delays due to inclement weather. Visit Student Manager on the district website to verify and update your contact information.
Mason City Schools have not closed due to snow since the 2010-2011 school year.
