Little Miami chorale visited Columbus

Little Miami chorale visited Columbus

MORROW, OH (FOX19) - Ohio Rep. Ron Maag recently stopped by Little Miami High School to invite the Women's Select Chorale to Columbus for a performance.

Maag brought with him a check for $500 from a private donor to pay for the costs to bring the Chorale and director Sarah Baker to the Ohio Statehouse for the group to perform for the entire assembly. The World Choir Games silver-medal winning Chorale had visited the Statehouse earlier this year to perform in the Capital rotunda, but Maag said he was anxious to have the group perform on the Statehouse floor.

This invitation fell on the heels of the Chorale's and the LM Select Mixed Choir's recent trip to New York City to sing at St. John the Divine Cathedral, Trinity Church and on the stage of Radio City Music Hall April 17-21.

This whirlwind trip included sightseeing and a visit to a singing clinic at New York University.

Little Miami students bring historical figures to life

Little Miami students bring historical figures to life

MAINEVILLE, OH (FOX19) -  Little Miami Intermediate School students brought historical figures to life inside of their classroom.

LMIS teacher Dana Albrecht's fifth graders recently portrayed their favorite people from history.

The project, called "Biography in a Bag," asked for students to bring in five objects that represented key elements of their chosen characters' lives.

For example, Amelia Earhart (played by Libby Weisenburgh) brought with her a globe, a balsa wood airplane and a flight manual. Elvis Presley (portrayed by Nate Crowder) had with him a letter written by The King, a copy of Presley's birth certificate, a 45-r.p.m. record and a sizeable bottle of hair gel.

The project is a great way for students have a deeper understanding of the world's historical figures, Albrecht said.
